The Lenormand cross spread is a five-card layout arranged in a plus sign or cross shape, specifically designed for decision-making and problem-solving. Unlike the linear five card spread, the cross layout assigns each position a distinct functional role: the center card represents the core situation or question, the card above shows what is influencing the situation from a higher perspective or what you aspire to, the card below reveals the foundation or root cause, the card to the left indicates the past influence or what is passing away, and the card to the right shows the future direction or outcome. This positional structure makes the cross spread exceptionally clear for questions where you need to understand not just what is happening, but why it is happening and where it is heading. The vertical axis of the cross represents the spiritual or aspirational dimension, while the horizontal axis represents the temporal flow from past to future.
Each position in the cross spread carries specific meaning that guides your interpretation. Position one at the center is the heart of the matter and should be read first. Position two above the center represents the conscious goal, ideal outcome, or the energy you are reaching toward.
